Watches - The World’s Most Popular
July 8, 2008
Every year Forbes magazine comes out with a list of the world’s most popular and most expensive products, as it has for. Most people dream of possessing a fine timepiece, but few can afford some the world’s most expensive watches. While, it is true that many makers of watches earn their bread and butter from product lines that are reasonably priced, some of the world’s prestigious watches, such as, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Girard-Perregaux and the like dripping with jewels that drives their cost up, can cost more than most us can even dream of. How much? Oh, they can cost you as much as and upward of $200,000 easily, and much, much more if you really want to splurge.
Expensive watches are mostly status symbols meant for collectors and though most watch companies don’t make too much money from high-end watches because of the cost of research and development, they continue to produce them to give their brand an ambiance of exclusivity. For those who can’t afford them, it’s all about the pleasure of owning something extraordinary!
Go looking for an exorbitantly expensive wristwatch, and what does one find? A survey of the very rich, the very famous and the very important people shows that Patek Philippe watches seem to lead in the number of the rich and famous sporting them. The Audemars Piguet, Omegas and Rolexes also show up in a fair sprinkling of them, as do Girard-Perregaux, Cartier, Jean Dunand, Piaget, Tag Heuer, Breitling, Jaeger Le Coultre, Breguet, Franck Muller and Bvlgari, names that crop up regularly as the world’s most prestigious and most expensive brand of watches.
But, the most expensive watch Constantin Vacheron, worth US$540,000 was worn by Silvio Berlusconi, Italian Prime Minister and mega-wealthy industrialist. For those with an eye for style and a mind that can handle only so much complication, the Excalibur EX 08 from Roger Dubuis should wear nicely.
The world’s top ten most expensive watches are Vacheron Constatin, Blancpain, Girard-Perregaux, Parmigian Fleurier, Roger Dubuis, Audemars Piguet, Jaaeger-Lecoultre, IWC, Omega and Breguet. There are even pocket watches for those that want to go back in time!
