To avoid having nail fungus, all you have to do is follow some simple routine. And the best part is you can do that at home.

First of all you have to make a habit of trimming your nails regularly. This falls under the category of grooming the nails. At the same time make sure you do not grow your nails too long. Because if the nails are too long, there is a chance of dirt getting stored inside and causing fungus.

At the same time file the nails properly. If the nails are too hard, soak them in warm water for a while and then file them. This will prevent dead cells from piling up around the nails.

If the nail is already affected by fungus, then you can try some remedies. Studies tell us about two good antidotes. One is Vicks Vaporub and the other is vinegar. Even though Vicks Vaporub seems like a bizarre remedy for nail fungus, many claim that this really works. If you are considering this as a remedy, then it is better to consult a doctor as to how you can apply that to the affected area.

Even though there is no scientific proof that vinegar is a remedy, there are studies that show that it works on fungus. All you have to do is make a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts of warm water. Then soak your feet in the mixture for at least 15 minutes. After that rinse your feet with water and then dry them with a towel. Do this regularly and see the difference.

Last but not the least is wearing the right kind of shoes. Those who wear closed toe shoes need to take extra care of their feet. Do not wear shoes that are too tight. That will cause more damage. Wear shoes that are the right size. At the same time apply a bit of talcum powder before wearing the shoes. That will prevent sweating.
