Our lips are sensitive to the elements just as any other part of our bodies. The cold can make them chapped and painful and they are susceptible to conditions of the skin as well. Some of these conditions are more serious than others but all can be treated.

One of the problems that we can have with our skin around our lips is excessive hair growth. This is called hirsutism. There are treatments for this such as a topical cream of eflornithine that is 13.9%. An example is Vaniqa. The purpose of eflornithine 13.9 % cream is to stunt the hair growth around your lips. Another hair problem is Alopecia. This is actually the condition of loosing the hair on your face. Unfortunately, there is no medical solution for this as of yet.

Another condition of the skin around your lips is tumors. They can be either benign or malignant and both can be treated by your doctor. A malignant tumor needs to be removed by your doctor by the means of surgery as soon as possible. These can spread like crazy if not removed.  A lesion that appears and is flat and a normal looking color, is mostly safe and benign but you can still have it removed at the doctors.

There are also precancerous lesions that can seem to spring up out of nowhere. These are known as AK’s. Luckily there is a treatment for theses scaly and rough lesions. The treatment would include but are not limited to cryotherapy, PDT, Carac, a topical cream, and imiquimod which is another cream.

Cold sores seem to be on of those pesky little problems that we all get at some point or another. They are ugly and they hurt. The medical term for these is called Herpes labialis and can be treated with oral medication and possibly a topical ointment depending from the nature of the cold sore. You can try Denavir or Zovirax. Scaly lips can also be a problem Make sure that moisturize well to prevent you from getting this condition and so that you will always have soft kissable lips.
