Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) does not happen overnight. It gives early warnings through symptoms like joint and tendons swelling. This is an alert for people, to consider the causes seriously and if you are wise, you should start treatment of RA early.

There are a number of parts, which RA typically involves, like knees, feet, shoulders, spine and hands, even as the affected part experiences intense pain. Sometimes it can bring your mobility under stress. Apart from seriously damaging tendons and tissues, it can lead to other serious therapeutic conditions, like anemia. Your doctor can easily diagnose this, through testing your blood, x-ray, as also by looking at the affected parts.

However, RA can evade the tests if it has just begun, say, not more than a year, by testing negative. Over a period, the diseases start manifesting, even as positive results also appear in diagnostic tests. After diagnosis of RA, the doctor assigns the patient to specialist known as Rheumatologist, trained in treating RA and other connected diseases, to guide the patient towards treatment as well as managing it over a long drawn year.

To begin with, give a suppressive treatment like painkiller, drugs to curb inflammation and steroids, to the patient, depending upon how seriously the disease is developing. Sometimes the specialist may order physiotherapy, to avoid using drugs.

After noticing that RA is becoming serious, resort to drugs to modify RA, which can help prevention of long-term damages. Medical research strides are bringing newer treatments from time to time. This can cripple the patients’ joints over a period, apart from degeneration of various body organs. At times, the complications arise from the effects of the medicines used during treatment. Instead of resorting to drugs, the patient should opt for natural remedies.

Herbs are effective as anti-inflammatory aids in the treatment of RA. Turmeric and ginger for instance, are such herbs. Certain foods can also worsen the condition, and these include sugar, dairy products, hydrogenated vegetable oils, corn and wheat. Since refined food contains chemicals, avoid that too.

RA does not respond to specific food based diets, unlike osteoarthritis.
