Treat Asthma Caused by Allergies

Some people suffer from asthma that is directly related to their allergies. This type of asthma is triggered when a person has an allergic reaction to something that they have eaten or due to environmental causes.
Recent studies performed in North America show that approximately 80% of asthma cases are the result of asthma directly linked to allergies. Studies also show that asthma and allergies basically come as a pair.
This is especially true for people who currently suffer from asthma related problems such as chronic inflammatory disease. It is probably safe to say that whatever triggers the allergic reaction is also triggering an asthma attack.
If you suffer from asthma and are reading this article, you may be asking yourself: “Is my asthma related to an allergy?” This is a good question to ask yourself and your doctor because if your asthma is related to an allergy, you may be able to prevent future asthma attacks by refraining from eating foods that cause your allergies or by not exposing yourself to certain environmental factors.
The most common sign of an asthma attack that is caused by an allergic reaction is that your airways become inflamed and you have a hard time breathing properly.
Allergies can come from irritants that are in the air such as pet hair, dust or pollen. You can also get allergies from certain foods such as eggs, seafood and chicken.
When an allergy causes an asthma attack, the person’s throat and airways can become constricting. The allergens in the air enter the body through the nose and mouth causing the airways to become constricted.
In addition to having a difficult time breathing, you may experience an allergic reaction on the skin along with watery, itchy eyes. This is because the body’s antibodies are getting ready to attack.
For example, if you are allergic to pet dander and you breathe it in through your nose or mouth, your body releases a chemical to try and fight off the allergen. Your body reacts to the introduction of the allergen, which is when you have an asthma attack.
To treat your asthma problems you first have to understand what is causing the asthma attacks. In most cases your asthma is caused by an allergic reaction to an allergen either in the air or in the food that you eat.
