Getting away from home can be a lot of fun and be a wonderful way to relax your mind, but traveling can take a toll on your body. When you are traveling there are some things you can do to limit the wear and tear on your body and stay in peak physical condition.
One of the hardest things we put our bodies through is traveling through time zones. Our bodies simply don’t know how to cope with jet lag. Try to arrange your schedule so that your body has time to adapt to a new routine. If possible try to sleep on the plane.
Think About what you are eating
One of the mistakes that many people make when they are traveling is that they don’t eat enough, or even worse they eat a lot of junk food. When you are traveling you should make sure you eat several helpings of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you aren’t able to find any fresh fruits try keeping some dried apricots or raisins on hand. The fruit will provide your body with the glucose it needs to stay alert.
What you shouldn’t eat while you are traveling is salty foods. The salt, combined with the sitting in one position, will often cause your body to retain water. Make sure you drink plenty of water and limit your alcohol consumption.
Most people find that their bodies do better if they eat smaller meals and snacks when they are traveling. The large meals tend to make them feel bloated and tired.
Bring Your Own Pillow
Some people have a really difficult sleeping while they are traveling. If you are one of these people, try to leave enough room in your suitcase for your pillow. Having your own pillow that is already properly adjusted to the shape of your head and smells like home, will help you relax.
When you are traveling from point A to point B make sure you are wearing comfortable clothing. Clothing that is too tight will make it difficult for you to relax and can trigger water retention. You should also make sure that the clothing you wear is something that can withstand travel stains.
