Transition Summer Fashion Into Fall
August 26, 2008
As the nights get cooler and leaves start changing colour, you know fall is round the corner. However, exciting though the prospect of wearing boots, layering clothes and wearing dark colours may be, limited funds may mean that a new fall wardrobe is out of the question. Instead, don’t pack summer clothes away or rush to the malls to buy expensive fall fashions, consider the following transition pieces.
Capris
Instead of stowing away Capri pants for the coming cool weather season, take a tip from Madonna. Pair them with a pair of killer boots and a sweater. Or if, you want to wear pumps, wear capris with tights and a blazer, a summer-friendly item made fabulous for fall.
Summer Dresses
The wrap dresses worn all summer easily do double duty as great fall staples. Pair them with long-sleeves, crewneck sweaters or turtlenecks. Add tights with boots, funky wedge heels or platform sandals to transition your summer look into fall.
Summer Scarves
This is an easy enough transition. Wear your chiffon and silk scarves with light jackets and blazers to the office or a fancy dinner date this fall. Turn plain winter style to hot.
Metallic Purses
Metallic bags look not only amazing paired with a pastel summer wardrobe, but they look just as great in the fall. Worn with all black, metallic bags make a sleek and plain black-on-black outfit look chicly sophisticated.
Leggings
They are not so over as some suggest, I would suggest hanging onto them for life. Vamp them up for fall by pairing them with a fabulous oversized sweater or a long tunic. Eggplant and mustard look great with black leggings, accessorised with gold.
Beach Cover-Ups
Your lovely beach tunics paired with the right accessories can make an amazing fall ensemble. Pack away your sleeveless tunics and tubes, but tunics with spaghetti straps can be worn with mini-sweaters. Wear too short long-sleeved cover-ups with thick belts and tights.
Open-Toed Shoes
Open-toed shoes or summer sandals can be worn with tights or socks a la Kate Moss and Mischa Barton. Just make sure the socks or tights are fitted at the feet.
Shorts
Summer’s hottest item doesn’t have to be relegated to the back of your wardrobe. Simply, pair a favourite pair of summer shorts with tights, patent pumps and a long-sleeved blouse.
