Growing facial hair, also known as beard mustache has been habit of man since time memorial. Today it has become a part of fashion. Men choose to grow facial hair in many different ways – some prefer just a mustache without the beard, where as some prefer both together.
Whatever may be the style, while you are trimming your facial hair; there are several things you have to keep in mind. They are – the length of your mouth, the size of your nose, the fullness of the upper lip area, thickness and the texture of the facial hair, width of the cheek and width of jaw and chin area. You might also want to check out the current styles and trends.
After you have decided on what style you want to go for, then you need to decide how you wish to trim your beard or mustache. In case of mustache, there are two basic parts of trimming. First you have to decide the overall length and then you choose what shape it would be. In case of trimming instruments you have two choices – you can either use a comb and mustache scissors to do the trimming or you can depend on the commercial trimmers. Before you do the trimming, have a good look at it and decide what size and shape do you want the facial hair to be. You can trim them into different styles such as Shaggy, Goatee, Horseshoe etc.
The Shaggy look was first introduced by a cartoon character named Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. This gives a kind of Hippy style. Just let your facial hairs grow on the chin, just about the size of the bottom of the chin. The length of the beard depends on you. The easy way to trim this particular style is to use the scissors.
A Goatee is more of a highbred – it is between a mustache and a beard. It is more of a circle of facial hair that goes over the lip, around the mouth and across the chin. While trimming this kind of facial hair, it is better to go to a salon. If you are doing this at home then the best instrument is the mustache scissors.
Last but not the least, while you are trimming, remember that facial hair grows in different directions. Thus you have to trim them in multiple directions as well. Whichever instrument you are using, be very careful. Once you chop off the hair, you will have to wait till it grows back.
