Tips To Avoid Dry Lips

Loss of moisture in lip skin causes dry chapped lips. The loss of natural oils may happen due to exposure to sun, cold dry winds, repeated licking, nutritional deficiency and hormonal imbalances. We can think of our lips as a sponge. When they are exposed to moisture, they absorb water and plump up. When dehydrated, they dry out and shrink. And, because they’re always exposed, they’re prone to dehydration, particularly during the cold, windy winter months.
With a little loving care, your lips can be perfect in no time. Listed below are some tips to keep your lips in perfect condition:
1. Take a water bottle with you wherever you go. Drinking enough water will keep the body, skin and lips hydrated.
2. Apply fresh butter on dry lips to make it smooth.
3. Don’t lick your lips. Saliva evaporates quickly and digests the thin membrane protecting lips, leaving lips drier than before you licked them.
4. Don’t smoke as smoking will constantly evaporate any natural oils on the lips.
5. Use a humidifier or place a jug of water on a radiator to add moisture to the surrounding air.
6. Grind rose petals with cream on the top of milk and apply on lips to cure the dry lips.
7. Mix 2 drops of glycerin and ½ tsp of lime juice and apply on lips to cure the dry lips.
8. Mix 2 drops of glycerin with 1 tsp of cream on the top of milk and apply to lips to cure the dry lips and as well as to get the smooth & shiny lips.
9. Mix equal quantities of nutmeg, turmeric, fresh butter and apply to lips.
10. Hot water fomentation, followed by a mixture of Vaseline and honey applied on the lips at least thrice a week will prevent lips from chapping.
11. Avoid the dry, cold weather that can cause dry lips.
12. Before you go out, coat your lips with a lip balm.
13. Sun damage to the lips can cause dryness and scaliness. So people should use not just any lip balm but one that contains sunscreen.
14. Moisturize your lips from the inside out by drinking additional fluids in the winter.
15. Put your finger on the side of your nose. Then rub your finger around your lips. It picks up a little of the oil that’s naturally there thus moisturizing your lips naturally.
16. Look for hydrating ingredients like beeswax, butter, vitamin E and almond, jojoba or coconut oils.
17. Ensure your body is not deficient in B vitamins, iron or essential fatty acids. These deficiencies can cause scaling of lips and cracking of lip corners. Take a multivitamin/mineral supplement after consultation with your physician.
18. Put on lip balm after a shower to seal in the moisture.
