Tips For Sleeping Better
December 30, 2008
Have you wondered in the night, when it will be morning so that you can get up and get going because you just can’t sleep? Most of us have experienced problems sleeping at one time or the other. Most often it is not likely that you have any sleeping disorder. Making a few changes in your sleeping habits can help you sleep better.
Change your bedroom habits
Dim your lights at least half an hour before you plan to go to sleep. The atmosphere will allow you to feel sleepy and eventually fall asleep.
Your bed should be used only for sleeping or having sex. Do not turn it into anything else. Avoid eating, chatting or having coffee or watching TV on your bed. This confuses your mind and so you find it difficult to sleep on.
Sleep in a quiet place. Although you may have gotten used to sleeping in noise, your mind might not have and so you might not be falling into deep sleep.
Having good ventilation in your bedroom can also be effective in getting you to sleep better.
Even the way your room feels can affect your sleeping patterns. Therefore, make some changes in your room, may be that will help you sleep better.
Change your eating habits
If you are looking to lose weight, then you should avoid this. However, you can try to eat starchy or carb-rich food before going to bed. That will make you feel drowsy.
While you are at your carb-rich food, try to avoid salt. Foods like pizza, instant noodle soup with extra soy sauce can make you thirsty, so you’ll end up waking frequently to get water.
Do not have caffeine before going to bed. This is a no-brainer, so keep away from coffee if you want to sleep.
Have a natural sedative like some chamomile tea, instead of sleeping pills, which can be addictive.
Keep yourself stress free
You can do this in a number of ways. Exercise is a good stress reliever. Let your office be your workplace and not your home. Keep all that work for the office only.
Do not focus on falling asleep. Oddly enough, it will only keep you up longer. If you are not able to fall asleep, don’t keep yourself in bed. Get out of bed and watch a bit of TV or read a book. Why stress yourself over it, you just might start feeling sleepy doing any of these things.
When you workout your body becomes very active. It remains active for some hours. So avoid workouts for at least five hours before going to sleep.
Change your sleeping habits
Avoid sleeping on your tummy. This can deprive you of oxygen and cause headaches in the morning.
If you sleep on too soft a mattress or a waterbed regularly, it will weaken your back muscles. Although it feels great, it will not keep feeling great in the end.
Finally, do not stress yourself out over sleep, you might be in a phase and it will pass.
