Tips For Losing Weight After Giving Birth
November 14, 2009
Pregnancy is one of life’s great experiences for any woman. Most women, however, dislike the weight gain and the weight retention after birth. There are certain ways that can help you effectively lose that extra weight. Here are a few points.
All Moms Are Not Celebrity Moms
Do you wonder why it seems so easy for the celebrities to lose their pregnancy weight so quickly? Understand that, unlike average women, celebrity moms are usually surrounded by fitness experts, dieticians and nurses.
They have made certain commercial commitments that must be kept and that give them additional incentive. They also have the monetary backing to get the help they need. This is why they seem to lose weight faster. You need to remember that your circumstances may be different and you need a different plan.
Eat Healthier
Pregnancy and weight gain are related. Many women cut calories in order to get in shape before pregnancy. This can be good. But once you are pregnant, you need to follow your doctor’s advice.
No Magic Formula
There is no magic formula that assures you will lose the pregnancy weight within a month. No matter how effective your plan is, it will generally take at least six months for you to regain your shape.
Recovering from the physical trauma of giving birth plus the responsibility of the baby’s care requires you to have lots of energy. Therefore, you should not start cutting calories at once. Eat healthy and be sure you have enough energy to deal with your new circumstances. During your first three months after birth, focus on gaining energy rather than losing weight.
Exercise
Only when you feel up to it and you have reached an appropriate energy level, should you start exercising. Even then, you must not start exercising too vigorously.
It can be damaging to your health. Always remember that your objective is to lose the pregnancy weight carefully and prudently. You should start with gentle exercises. Once again, it is important to seek and act on the advice of your doctor, whether it is about your diet or your exercise plan to lose weight.
Breast Feeding
Here is a quick note about breast feeding. There is a common misconception that breast-feeding will negatively affect your figure. This is completely wrong. It is not only good for your baby’s health, but also for yours.
The best time to start working on losing weight gained during pregnancy is usually two to three months after giving birth but only after you feel that you are regaining your strength and your period has returned to normal. Whatever your plan, be sure it is approved by your doctor.
