The World’s Most Expensive Wedding Gowns

Weddings are expensive occasions, none more so than for the bride and groom. But, for those born rich, and who can afford to leave no expense unturned, expensive wedding gowns hardly cause a ripple in their budget. But, what would you think if the bride got married in the world’s most expensive wedding dress. And, that is just what Renee Strauss owner of a highly successful bridal salon in Beverly Hills, in collaboration with Martin Katz, who deals in rare jewels, has come up with i.e. The Diamond Wedding Gown which features 150-carats of diamonds and is valued at US $12 million.
Unveiled at the premier Luxury Brands Lifestyle Bridal show in February of 2006, later in the year, Dubai’s Fashion & Diamonds show also featured a gown touted as the world’s most expensive wedding dress. However, Yumi Katsura’s wedding dress design is only valued at $8.5 million. The second most expensive wedding dress in the world, it features 1,000 pearls, including a 5-carat white-gold diamond that is one of only two in the world.
As well, bearing a price tag of £240,000, almost ten times the price of standard wedding dresses cat walked at fashion shows, this platinum wedding dress that featured in London during Hatton Garden Jewellery Week, has been designed by Italy’s Mauro Adami, using 40-metres of textile spun from silk and platinum thread.
In the 1950’s, just as today, wedding dress designers went overboard creating the most expensive gown that was priced at $100,000. A strapless white satin and silk net gown with a 100,000 cultured pearl encrusted ballerina skirt and satin sash owned by Imperial Pearl Syndicate and modelled by many well known celebrities e.g. Gloria Swanson, Diana Lynn, Nina Foch and others. With a pleated ruffle down each side, half an hour in it weighed much more.
Not to be outdone, a famous Hong Kong jewellery designer came up with gem studded wedding dress that cost approx. 999,999 Yuan or US $132,902. This 9,999-carat gem encrusted wedding dress can be seen displayed in a jewellery store in Shangrao, a part of eastern China’s Jiangxi province.
While, fashion designers and jewellers get together to design wedding dresses that only end up on display, there are other expensive wedding gowns that do end up on the bride as she walks down the aisle. However, that as may be, it didn’t happen to the most expensive wedding dress anybody asked American fashion designer Vera Wang to design. Her wedding dress for J. Lo, who was engaged to marry Ben Affleck is said to be the most expensive, though Wang did not reveal the price, because it was made of couture fabric and had 18 tiers, the most expensive and time-consuming to sew, so said the designer.
