As the wheel of fashion turns, you find that old styles are re-fashioned and re-mixed to current in vogues. Similarly, cinema and TV are fast becoming a style inspiration. Many people are dressing in fashions picked from their favourite movie or TV series, going for an 1980s style, by bucking the hippy-luxe, 1970s styling rules.
Perms are being reconsidered a second time round, from white boots, to baggy leggings and statement earrings, all the worst things of the 1980s are being thrown up at you, but the early era style is still capable of drawing enormous fashion kudos.
To help you get the look, the first rule is to concentrate on creating a soft silhouette to keep things fresh and modern. This means that the shoulder pad-heavy power suit must be ditched in favour of high-waisted, regular or skinny fit jeans teamed with a pussybow blouse.
For those who love vintage shopping, browse around your favourite stores for worn-in cowboy boots and the ubiquitous white, multi-zip leather jacket, or keep an eye on high street denim labels for white and pastel-coloured jean jackets.
You can give a contemporary take to leggings by teaming them with a patterned dress in jersey or silk; flat pumps or gladiator sandals to complete the look. Slip into figure-hugging minis or relaxed all in one jumpsuits for instant ‘80s cool chic. Finally, complete your Mandrake inspired look with a belt, be it super skinny or ultra wide. Cinch things in with a stretchy, corset style top over your favourite jeans or a long, tapered skirt! Fashion recycled will get most hearts racing!
Moral of the story is that what goes round comes around! So, don’t throw out anything, just mothball it away till such time as fashion dictates it is time to be worn again!
