The Nose Job
June 2, 2009
It’s hard to overlook a person’s nose. It sits right in the middle of your face and, depending on its size and shape; it can detract from an otherwise beautiful look. A nose job, known as rhinoplasty, this can correct the problem and give you the nose you’ve always wanted.
Most people are their own worst critics. This means that a majority of people might not even notice the bump on you nose that you fret over all the time. You’ve spent years examining and analyzing your own face, pushing you into judging every imperfection you can find.
The first thing you should do when considering this elective surgery is consult with your closest friends. Ask them if they notice any imperfections.
You might consider rhinoplasty on your own, though, if your nose has had a negative effect on your self-esteem.
Always consider your health. It might not seem like it, but never forget that this is still a major surgery. If you’re not healthy, pass on the nose job until you’re fit.
Surgery causes swelling. Most people don’t notice or don’t care about this after-effect when the surgery saves their lives, but a nose job is a cosmetic change.
You have to be mentally prepared for the swollen and possibly blotchy face you’ll see in the mirror for at least a month after rhinoplasty. Some people expecting an instantaneously perfect look after going under the knife could fall into depression during the recovery time.
If you’ve been contemplating a nose job for a long time, perhaps years, you will need to examine your expectations. Don’t let them rise too high. Your life won’t change post-surgery, and your friends may not even notice anything different.
Keep your head clear and remember you’re doing this for yourself to prevent depression.
Do not overlook the fact that rhinoplasty is still surgery. Weigh the risks. Generally, a nose job is a relatively safe procedure, but there are some side effects. Often during recovery, red spots will appear on your face.
Most of the time they go away as your face heals, but it’s possible these spots could be permanent additions to your visage. Some people report new susceptibility to seasonal allergies and nosebleeds, so keep those in mind if you have a history of either issue.
The final decision is yours, of course; just be sure you think it through.
