If you have teenagers in your house or are a teen yourself, knowing what a healthy diet for teenager looks like is an important piece of information. Teenagers still have a lot of growing to do, and they need a lot of nutrients to get them through all the schoolwork, dances, and football games, hanging out with friends, heartbreak and everything else that is part of being a teenager. Sugar added in the food adds energy but not essential nutritional components. Food with high amounts of sugar makes it therefore difficult to secure the body the right amount of nutrition. This is the biggest problem when we talk about general teen nutrition.

Teenage diet or diet for teenagers should contain some of the essential nutrients mentioned below –

1. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are needed as tissue synthesis occurs rapidly.

2. As the calorie intake increases, the need for vitamin B1 (thiamin), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), and vitamin B3 (niacin) also increases.

3. Vitamin B6 and vitamin D are needed in higher amounts for tissue growth and skeletal growth.

4. The completed structure and function of newly formed cells relies on the presence of vitamins A, C, and E.

5. There is a continued need for calcium, magnesium and zinc so that the bones can increase their density.

In a subject to learn teenage diet, food with loads of sugar increase the risk of gaining weight, why it is important to only get a moderate amount of these stimulants, as soda, candy and cakes. It is recommended that sugar should be less than 10% of the daily amount of energy, meaning that you should not eat more than 55 g of sugar, especially not in your teen years. Teens who are living a sedentary lifestyle with minimal exercise do not burn up the extra calories obtained from carbohydrates.

It is advisable to take small portions of food frequently to maintain energy levels rather than actually cutting down or completely eliminating carbohydrates from diet that is advisable for as teenage diet. It is healthier to include complex carbohydrates such as vegetables and whole grains than simple sugars. In short, diets for teens that work should be diets that advocate healthy and balanced meals with regular exercise. It is definitely not an instant solution, but rather one that takes time to see results. By eating healthily, cutting down on junk foods and snacking and other bad eating habits, half the battle is won. Regular exercise will help to keep teens fit, whilst burning excess fats stored in the body.
