Taking Care of Your Contact Lenses

For those who regularly wear contact lenses, avoiding eye problems is a major concern. Cleaning your lenses properly on a regular basis can help protect your eyes. Contact lenses aren’t sterile, so this potentially increased the number of microorganisms that can get into your eyes. Contacts also are affected by daily wear and tear.
Luckily, you can take a few simple steps to better cares for your lenses. To prevent lens contamination, try to avoid antibacterial and moisturizing soaps for hand washing.
Always use solution when placing your lenses in their case to prevent damage to them. You should also always keep your lenses moist. Don’t use lash building or permanent mascara. These may leave hard-to-clean deposits on your contacts. Keep your lenses case closed tightly to avoid contamination.
When cleaning your lenses, always remember to wash your hands thoroughly before you remove them. Be sure to start with the same contact every time. Most people start with their left. Avoid lotions when cleaning and stick to oil-free foundations when wearing your contact lenses.
The solution bottle is a clean environment, and to keep it that way you should try not to touch the tips of the bottles. Uses only the solution recommended by your doctor, and clean your lenses every time you remove them.
Whatever you do, don’t clean your contact lenses with your saliva! There are millions of germs in your mouth, and your saliva will transfer these to your contact lenses, where they could infect your eyes.
Colored and cosmetic contacts aren’t as durable as regular prescription lenses. These should never be used for extended periods of time, or they could contaminate your eyes and cause serious vision problems. It’s important to remember that if the lenses begin irritating your eyes, you should rinse the lenses and flush your eyes with water.
If you have soft lenses, be sure to use soft-lens-specific cleaner. They’re far more delicate than hard lenses, so they require special cleaning solutions. Hard lenses, on the other hand, are far more durable and long lasting. They can usually handle stronger solutions, but always consult your optician or doctor before switching from your prescribed solution.
