What is dwarfism?
Dwarfism is a genetic disorder that causes its victims to have deficiencies in growth, with the average height for a male being around 4’4” short and a female’s average height is 4’1” short.What is the condition or symptoms of dwarfism?
The symptoms of dwarfism are distinct and can be noticed at the birth of the affected person. In the cases of dwarfism, the infant would have a long and narrow torso with short arms and legs and a shortness of the limbs.
Also, with this condition, the affected person would have a large head with a protruding forehead, a misshaped mid-face and cheekbones and a small nose with small nostrils. The baby’s middle and ring fingers would generally appear short, making the hand looked like a trident.
Most of the affected person’s joints can extended further than normal and as an example, the knees can extend far beyond the point of stoppage, but not all of the affected person’s joints can extend like this and to the contrary, the extension and the rotation of the elbows are limited to a certain point.
Usually, at birth, the infant walks with a hump-like on the mid to lower back section of the body but when the baby begins to walk, the hump disappears and the baby walks with in a sway-like manner, which result for the baby having low-like legs.
Also for those who suffer from dwarfism, they are short on muscle tone and because of that, it takes longer for them to learn to walk and use other motor functions. Also, it has been believed that a person with dwarfism are not smart because they have such large heads, but that is not the case, since studies have shown that dwarfism sufferers of both genders, have and are capable of thinking and performing certain chores just like a regular person.
A person with dwarfism can live healthy and normal lives, but the lives are challenging and cruel, since there are people that are not too kind to these “special” people and tend to harass, tease, ignore and discriminate against them, so for the average dwarfism sufferer, life is an even harder road but a one worth travelling.
