Summer Skin Care

skincareDuring the summer season the body is exposed to the direct sun rays and summer skin care is a matter of great importance. Water loss through perspiration is rapid during the summer months and therefore drinking plenty of water is helpful in replacing the lost fluid.

However, due to the humid conditions during the summer season, water loss is accelerated through the body as it attempts to cool itself. This results in clogging pores and exfoliating becomes very essential.

Tips for Skin Care

Cleansing

It is essential to cleanse the body with a natural, vegetable soap based cleanser and hydrating the skin with an alcohol free, natural toner after cleansing. Cleansers and toners need a little boosting. Exfoliating should be done but not exceeding twice per week.  Exfoliating helps get rid of the skin cells that the body sheds.

Moisturizing

Light moisturizers can be used to massage into the skin at night which helps to increase circulation to the skin and it will not tend to clog the pores unlike creams and lotions with petroleum based ingredients do.

As a result of using light moisturizers, the skin becomes less dry. It is also recommended to use moisturizers after showering to seal in the moisture that the body has just soaked in.

Lip Care

Lip balm, gloss and lip stick can be used to prevent chapped lips. It is advisable, however; to use lip care products containing natural sun-blocking agents and titanium dioxide that will keep lips become protected and moisturized.

Healthy diet

A good diet is an essential element for healthy and glowing skin. Increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables that are found in abundance during summer.

Adequate proportion of vitamins and minerals helps to fight against infections and cell damage. Dry and flaky skin results from lack of vitamins in the body.

Overall Skin Care

When working or spending too much time outside in the hot sun, always cover up to reduce the amount of exposure to the sun with a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and long and loose fitting clothes.

Excessive exposure to the sun leads to diseases such as skin cancer and wrinkles arising from photo-aging. Proper skin care during the summer season can have significant effect on the overall health of the skin.
