Summer Beauty Tips
July 1, 2009
Although most people love a summer glow, it is not as easy to achieve as one would think. During these hot and humid months your beauty needs increase and you need to take extra special care of yourself to achieve that radiant glow.
Saltwater and chlorine can wreak havoc on the silkiest of hair, making proper treatment especially important for this time of year.
For starters, because your hair is already exposed to so many damaging elements in the summer, hair dryers should be avoided altogether if possible.
Natural air-drying will result in less breakage and a healthier shine. Applying a deep conditioning treatment once a week will help in efforts to avoid dull, frizzy hair caused by excess summer heat.
Summer is the perfect time to consider lightening your hair color by a shade or two or adding soft blonde highlights that will complement the bronzy glow most people achieve during this time of year.
When it comes to makeup during the summer, less is definitely more. By applying less makeup, you will let your natural summer glow shine through. If your normal routine consists of applying a heavy foundation and heavy coloring, skip this step during the summer.
Not only will it look unnatural, but this type of makeup will melt off in the humidity. Pores in the skin are already susceptible to the sweat and dirt of steamy summer days, and layers of makeup will increase the risk of blockages.
By abandoning heavy makeup you allow your skin to breathe and will achieve radiant results. That does not mean you should abandon makeup altogether.
A nice bronzer during the evenings works wonders for developing a sun-kissed look. You can still wear bright, bold eye shadow, but keep it light. If you feel the need to accessorize with flashy eye-catching colors, opt for a brightly colored manicure or pedicure.
However, if you choose to do so, be sure to properly care for your nails because such bright colors will surely attract attention. While bold nails can be beautiful, untidy nails in bold colors can be embarrassing.
You should always wear moisturizer that contains appropriate sunscreen levels. This will not only prevent permanent skin damage and sunburns, but it will also help you maintain your tan for a longer period of time.
There are several over the counter self-tanners you can choose from. Just be sure to use it sparingly; overuse will result in orange skin that is far from natural looking.
It is best to exfoliate before application to allow for a more even application. Also, be sure to wipe your hands and in-between your fingers after applying the tanning lotion to prevent staining in these areas. Another option is the spray tan, which is offered in many salons, spas and tanning centers.
