Stay Fit With EPOC
October 17, 2008
People are giving too much importance to weight loss programs these days. In an urge to loose weight quickly, you may join various fitness programs. You may also keep a constant check on the calorie count that is burnt during these fitness programs. Most of the time you may forget the calories burnt during these fitness sessions. Proper training is the key to burning those unwanted fat with fitness programs and provides effective results after the completion of your fitness program.
Such calories are called EPOC or Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption. In simple terms, these calories represent the excess calories that the body will be able to burn by the end of the fitness session to get your body in a position it was prior to the beginning of the fitness program.
This involves a variety of diverse processes such as recovery, increase in the number of glycogen present in the muscle that is lost during workouts, restoring the levels of blood lactate to normal range and lowering the body temperature and heart rate.
EPOC effects
To achieve the goal of maximum weight loss and stay fit with EPOC, you will have to utilize EPOC to the best of your ability and increase the calories to be burnt daily.
There is a strong relation between EPOC degree and your power workout sessions. The degree to which you work hard towards your workout will determine the energy levels needed to get you back into your original shape.
In addition, there are other variables in your workouts you may change to get the “best after burn” results and help you stay fit with EPOC.
Intervals
In order to increase EPOC, try to take small intervals in between your workout sessions to get the desired results. When you take intervals, your body is forced to work even harder without much effort between sets. This means you will need thorough recovery after the completion of your training or fitness program.
You do not have to work so hard that it requires additional capacity to lift intense weights as this plays an important role to increase your EPOC.
Weight Lifting
During the weight lifting programs, lift as much weight as possible. This will boost the energy required to get back to your original shape later.
Now, you might notice a significant increase in your heart beat as a result of the heavy weights especially while performing exercise targeting the lower part of the body. This increase in your heartbeat is responsible for EPOC. The longer you exercise, the more the amount of calories you will burn.
Always try different exercises that suit your body and help in burning maximum calories and if you feel another type of exercise such as aerobics will help in your attempt of burning more calories, it is always worth a try.
