Smoking and Pregnancy

Smoking is inhalation and exhalation of the fumes of burning tobacco in cigarette and pipes. Some persons draw smoke into their lungs; others do not.
Smoking is very dangerous habit for any pregnant woman or for woman’s trying to concieve.
Effect of Smoking before Pregnancy
Smoking creates many obstacles for conceiving no matter who smokes whether female or male. Due to smoking fertility rate of people decreases. On the other hand their offspring’s also have risk in becoming parent. Smoking reduces level of fertility to a great extent as it affects rate of hormones which are essential to conceive. It also affects the movement of female eggs to womb via fallopian tube. Smoking reduces the level of sperm count in males.
Smoking also causes following effects;
Amount of Semen produced is also reduced.
Sperms mobility is also harmed
The shape of sperms is also affected.
Blood vessels are also affected that supply blood to penis.
Erection problems also arise.
Effect of smoking during Pregnancy
Placental problems
Smoking causes many disease like vascular disease, which hampers flow of blood through placenta. During later period of pregnancy vaginal bleeding can be caused due to abruption and even can cause premature delivery or Death of fetus.
Effects of nicotine
Nicotine affects arteries, including that carry blood to placenta. Due to this oxygen supply and nutrient supply to the baby is reduced due to which size of baby becomes small.
Effects of carbon monoxide
during smoking carbon monoxide takes place of oxygen in blood due to which sometimes fetuses have to make new blood vessels for carrying oxygen.
Long-term effects on the baby
Smoking reduces the nutrition that a baby can receive which affects development of their brain and nerve cells. Smoking also increases chances of miscarriage.
Harm caused to babies of women who smoke
Babies have low weight
These babies have smaller organs as compared to those of nonsmokers.
Functioning of lungs is also poor.
They are more prone to diseases
Have less Mental abilities.
