Sleep less and gain weight

Melbourne – according to recent studies it is established that individuals who sleep less are more probable to become fat, smoke cigarettes, drink a lot and do little work out. As per the Australian sleep experts, the study is the strongest yet to give details the benefits of a good night’s sleep. The scientists caught up in the National Centre for Health Statistics study of eighty thousand Americans established that people who get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep tend to be slimmer and usually live a healthier lifestyle than others individuals who lack sleep.

And people, who get less than 6 hours or even more than nine hours, tend to gain weigh, drink, and smoke and work more, but exercise less.
Studies suggested that the association between sleep and the other factors was not clear but the connection was ’striking’.

Ron Grunstein, head of sleep investigate at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, said that the findings were significant.
“This is the largest study of its kind to show the link between sleep hours and lifestyle problems,” Grunstein commented.

“There’s increasing proof that making the effort to get the right amount of sleep every night will have a positive impact not just on alertness, performance and other things like driving, but your weight and behavior too,” he also said.
There was an alternative consideration that regards obesity as an inflammatory condition that interferes with sleep but Grunstein said the proof for this was ‘unconvincing’.

With regards to drinking and smoking, both behaviors were known to hinder with sleep but it was also likely sleep deprivation was causing these ‘risk-taking’ behaviors.

“That fits with what we know about casinos wanting to keep people awake for long hours to gamble,” he added.
