Skin Care Tips For Teens
Changing hormones has many teenagers struggling with bad skin, acne and more. A lot of teenage skin problems are due to giving in to peer pressure and engaging in high risk behaviour, such as, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, illegal drug use and sexual activity. These activities take a toll of teenage skin, which means they require skin care tips to help teens achieve best possible results.
Teenage skin care involves taking care when choosing common cosmetics like foundation, blush and moisturizer, ensuring they are all oil-free. Cosmetic products should be chosen carefully after ascertaining whether or not they will promote the formation of blemishes or cause blocked pores. Take the advice of a qualified sales person or a dermatologist regarding skin products that are best for your skin type. Remove your makeup before going to sleep. Always buy makeup non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic brands. Throw away old makeup that smells or looks different.
Teenagers should take care not to pick, squeeze or pinch blemishes or pimples with their nails. You can cause infection or permanent acne scars. Only cosmetic surgery or skin peeling will help you get rid of the resultant acne scarring.
Wash your face twice a day with warm water and a mild soap. Gently massage face with circular motions. Skin cleansing routine should be gentle. Hard scrubbing can worsen skin conditions making it worse. Use a mild cleanser, washing the face especially after taking part in heavy exercise. Rough scrubs or face pads are to be avoided. Skin should be rinsed thoroughly after washing to get rid of any soap residue. After cleansing apply an over-the-counter lotion containing benzoyl peroxide to decrease oil production and bacteria.
Use SPF 30 sunscreen or more on a regular basis. The sun’s rays can skin damage and promote premature ageing of the skin, which is why it is recommended that SPF be used every day. One should also be aware that certain acne medications, as well as, other medications make one more prone to sunburn. Always opt for sunscreen, re-applying it when in the sun for a prolonged periods of time.
Care should be taken to avoid accidental nicks or blemishes while shaving. Experiment with razors till your find one that is gentle on the skin.
As teenagers are growing up they should eat a well balanced, low-fat diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Plenty of water should be drunk and regular exercise taken for a healthy skin. Since, our skin is the most visible reflection of what’s going on in our bodies; people equate healthy skin with beauty. However, healthy skin is about more than just good looks; it is essential for our survival. So, keep your skin glowing with the right skin care techniques and by eating well and getting lots of exercise.
