Skin Care Tips For Black Women
By following a healthy diet, exercising and following skin care tips, even black women can have the beautiful skin they see on television or admire in magazines. They can give their dark skin a healthy glow, not with cosmetics, but naturally as beautiful skin is often the result of radiating inside out. Practitioners of the ancient Indian form of medicine Ayurveda, stress that you are what you eat. So, a healthy diet is of the utmost importance, a diet that consists of fruits and vegetables, baked, sautéed or broiled food, instead of meals made up of fatty, fried food.
And while, you may slather on the most expensive creams and lotions, water is the best way to keep your skin moisturized and dewy looking. Be sure to drink at least a couple of litres of water a day and more if you follow a strenuous exercise regimen. You may find it hard to believe but exercise also plays and important role in keeping skin looking glowingly healthy. It helps to keep the skin toned and taut, it increases the blood flow so essential for nourishing the skin with essential nutrients derived from the food we eat.
In addition, you can help you dark skin look soft and smooth by using moisturizers. Use the right type for your skin and apply them when your skin is still slightly damp after your shower, as damp skin seals the moisture in. Be gentle with your skin, following a cleansing routine that effectively removes the make-up, including the grime. However, don’t use harsh cleansers as they will only strip your skin of excessive oil, leaving it dry and parched. For oily skin use a middle of the road cleanser that is neither too harsh nor too mild.
And, while you may think that black skin does not need protection, you must take care to protect it from the damaging rays of the sun. You can do so, by using sunscreen to prevent hyper-pigmentation or by wearing a wide brimmed hat to shade the face from the drying heat of the sun. Contrary to popular belief that black women are protected because of the extra melanin in their skin, they still need to know black skin care tips, more so because black skin is extremely scar prone.
Black women should avoid bleaching creams or skin lightening creams, including skin peeling products, as they tend to damage the skin. Instead, maintain a healthy black skin by using products made from Shea butter, which help to retain the skin’s elasticity and soothe and soften rough skin. Use make-up colours such as caramel, apricot, honey and mauve to compliment your black skin.
Eating right, exercising, an adequate liquid intake and following a responsible skin care regimen, will ensure you have perfectly, beautiful black skin, the envy of all who see it!
