Skin Care for Combination Skin Types
July 8, 2009
Most women have a combination skin type. Combination skin occurs when some skin areas are greasy while other areas are dry. The cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin are called the T-zone.
The T-zone tends to be oily, while other facial areas tend to be dry. Those with combination skin have skin pores that are open in the T-zone. They tend to have an oily skin texture in the T-zone but a firm forehead or smooth cheeks.
Due to a lack of sebaceous activity, dehydrated patches can be seen on the cheeks and forehead of those with combination skin.
Those with combination skin can have a shiny nose, forehead and chin, and normally dry skin around the eyes, neck, and outer areas of the cheeks. This may result in blemishes and blackheads in the T-zone.
As such, women with combination skin should always use a liquid foundation that is particularly suited for the oily and dry skin of the face.
Determining whether you have a Combination Skin Type
Those with combination skin have some dry patches as well as some oily patches. Generally, the cheeks are dry while the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin) is oily.
With combination skin, some parts of the face feel dry while others feel smooth after washing. Around midday the T-zone tends to become shiny with oil. The skin generally cracks around the T-zone, while the rest of the skin on the face and neck remain dry.
Combination Skin Care Tips
Women with combination skin have skin that is both dry and oily. Therefore their skin needs extra care. Such factors as the weather, their mood, body chemistry, sleeping habits and cosmetics can affect the delicate balance of their skin.
Women with combination skin can treat their dry skin areas with homemade cold creams or moisturizing creams, while the oily skin areas can be treated with homemade astringents.
Clean the oily area, the T-zone, a minimum of two times a day with a face wash or cleansing cream that is not oil based. You can also use a non-abrasive astringent to help keep the area clean, but its application should be restricted to once a week as astringents dry out the skin.
The dry skin areas such as the cheeks and neck need a lot of moisture, so moisturizer should be applied twice a day, once in the morning and again at night. Use two different masks or facial packs to best meet combination skin requirements.
Combination skin requires a little more attention than normal skin. However there are a few home remedies that a woman can use, that are better options than the facial products available on the market.
