Females opting for skin bleach products often cite both personal and professional reasons. These reasons vary from young female’s desire to look fair for matrimonial purposes, to professional females wanting to look eye-catching to a middle aged woman realising her wish for fair complexion to conceal facial wrinkles.
Skin bleaching is an antique method to obtain fairer skin. Skin bleach products reduce the melanin (pigment responsible in determining the skin color) production in the body. Some mild bleach products such as sunscreen absorb the damaging ultra violet rays preventing the pigmentation or skin darkening.
However, these bleaching products generally contain hydrogen peroxide, which may cause damage to the skin if not used with adequate precautions. Hydroquinone is also a harmful powerful chemical used in these products. These chemicals can do wonders, but also carry significant risk with their usage.
Following are the necessary guidelines, while using skin bleach products:
• Conduct a pilot test before using any skin bleach products. The test can be conducted by applying a small amount of bleach under the ear and observe its effects for a period of 2 days. If any discomfort such as irritation, redness, or tenderness occurs, the product must be discarded.
• Instructions must be read and followed properly before any usage.
• Strictly avoid applying these skin bleach products near sensitive areas like the eyes and nose.
• Avoid excessive usage of the skin bleach products especially when applied to hair.
• Always apply sunscreen lotion with SPF 30, after using these products to safeguard any reaction from direct sunlight.
• The use of soap must be avoided. A high-quality face wash according to the skin type is generally recommended.
• Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing must become a vital component to the daily skin care routine.
There are also home-made skin bleach products to counter the ill effects of commercial bleaching products available in the market.
Effective skin bleaching products can be manufactured using natural ingredients from the kitchen shelf. These natural skin bleach products are also supposed to be extremely efficient on dark spots and blemishes.
