Simple Tips for Arthritis Prevention
It is possible to prevent arthritis with exercise and diet. To prevent pain from settling in the joints, following a healthy lifestyle; that is eating right and exercising are very important.
Exercise
Aerobic exercises, swimming and walking can be tremendously helpful. When these exercises are done for about three or four times a week, arthritis will be well under control. The age of the person should determine the intensity of the exercise. For example people over 60 should do low intensity exercises like short walks. Those who have not been active should start slowly thus building up gradually. Starting with heavy exercises at once can lead to injury.
The best exercise for arthritis prevention is walking. Walking keeps the joints moving. This could be done at different terrains. The same path will put some amount of stress on the ankles. You can use fields sometimes and hilly grounds at other times. Swelling joints that develop after walking can be wrapped with ice in a towel to ease swelling and pain.
Creams
Creams made with active ingredients containing pepper can relieve the pain associated with arthritis.
Weight Check
People who are overweight are more likely to develop arthritis than others. This is because the more weight a person has, the more pressure he/she puts on the joints of the knees, hips, ankles and feet. Even losing just a kilogram can reduce pain considerably.
Diet
Arthritis prevention demands that you have a diet which is rich in minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants. It is recommended that other oils like fish oil, primrose oil and flaxseed oil be eaten to prevent arthritis.
Avoid free radicals
Arthritis occurs due to the existence of free radicals in the body. Areas like the joints where there are cartilage tissues are constantly under attack from free radicals leading to inflammations and swellings. Free radicals come about due to things like smoking, exposure to pesticides and herbicides, car exhausts and alcohol. Antioxidants combat free radicals. There are certain antioxidants available today.
Yoga
There are some yoga exercises that can help prevent arthritis. These could be done with the help of instructors. Yoga gives an overall sense of wellness.
