Should Drinking Be Prohibited On Screen

NEW DELHI, India: Poring over at Health Minister Dr. Ambumani Ramadoss, Censor Board chief and the legendary actress of the past Sharmila Tagore expressed her view that health minister should focus on more health issues rather than focusing on the interpretation of smoking and drinking in Indian cinema.
Retorting to his fresh remarks that actors should not be shown consuming alcohol in films, Sharmila said, “I would humbly like to propose that there are much more important health issues like fake medicines that are accessible in the Indian market and are leading to fatal diseases. The returns of this market are enormous and the minister should tackle this issue.”
Sharmila commented that she was not against the minister’s statement on alcohol, but added that contrasting liquor, that a person may “opt” to take; fake medicines were “accidentally” causing immense harm to life. She said there were other health issues like pesticides in water and vegetables that required to be addressed on a main concern basis.
“I also feel that the health minister should not have a tapered vision. He has first spoken of smoking, then chips and now alcohol depicted in films. We are part of the entertainment industry and not an educational establishment. Films have for all time reflected society,” she said.
The Censor Board chief said the film industry’s views should be taken before any step is taken towards a ban. She also pointed out that unlike films that overlook associate like smoking and drinking, music videos adore these habits.
“There should be some sort of check on music videos that promote such things,” she expressed. Dr. Ambumani Ramadoss had previous week raised apprehension over actors shown consuming liquor onscreen.
