Shearling Coats
July 10, 2008
Fall in all its varied hues of warm gold, russet and orange is a daily reminder that winter is just waiting to step in the door, with howling winds and drifting snow. It’s about time you begin to prepare for winter’s onslaught by bringing out the winter clothing. Warm coats and jackets are much in demand in spring and fall, however, once winter sets in; heavier coats are required to ward off the chill.
Leather coats are one option as they help keep one nice and warm, and if properly cared for can last for a long time. They come in all varieties of leather from full leather to softer suede types, including Shearling coats made from the skins of lambs that have been shorn only once. Elegantly designed, Shearling products are known for their style, high quality affordability, durability and functionality. Over the years Shearling has gained immense popularity because of its wonderful insulating properties. It is not only suitable for sub-zero cold, rather surprisingly; Shearling also works well in warm weather too. This is because the insulation consists of extensive air pockets that allow body heat to escape during warmer weather. Another reason for its popularity is because it is incredibly soft. Quite simply, a Shearling jacket or coat in winter not only feels down right comfortable, but luxurious as well.
Winter clothing like Shearling coats are ideal for keeping one warm as toast in the coldest of weathers. Shearling coats made of lambskin and incredibly soft and silky are affordable and if looked after well, should last for many long years. Many people are not aware, but Shearling products are not just limited to coats and jackets. One can keep warm from head to toe with Shearling gloves, mittens, hats, boots, slippers, etc.
When winter is over, make sure to care for your Shearling by packing them away. To ensure that they remain smooth and silky, it is recommended that you store them with a professional furrier, who will condition, clean and glaze the garment while in storage. Shearling is best kept in a cool, dry place, in a garment bag made of fabric that breathes, when not in use. An annual application of suede protecting spray is also advised. While, a mild rain will not ruin your Shearling, you must still hang it up to dry naturally in a well-ventilated room, give it a good shake and remove water stains with a suede brush. If, it has got a thorough soaking, take it to a professional furrier for proper treatment.
Think of Shearling as a clothing investment and take proper care of your Shearling products so that you can enjoy them for many, many years to come!
