Sausages for a Delicious Treat!
How many kinds of sausages do you know of? Many of us are familiar with a handful of popular choices in sausage, and know the basic form that sausage is known for. But if you are looking to spice it up a bit, there are many types of sausage you many want to try for your next cookout or snack.
First, lets start with the basics. There are four main categories of sausages: Fresh, cooked, smoked and cooked and dried. Depending on the type of sausage, they can have different cooking methods that bring out the most flavor and make the tastiest treats.
Some examples of fresh sausage include Boudin Blanc, which is best sautéed with breadcrumbs and seasoning for a delicious treat. There is also polish sausage and sweet and hot Italian sausages which are excellent to grill and serve with buns, or to cut up and serve with different types of dipping sauces.
Examples of cooked sausages include Boudin Noir, which comes ready to eat, but to add more flavor you can sauté it with garlic and butter. Linguica is also a fully cooked sausage that is ready to eat, but again to add to the flavor sauté with a little garlic.
Smoked and cooked varieties include Knackwurst, Braunschweiger and cervelat. These types are ready to eat, fully-cooked and are made in a fashion where they are smoked and flavored with rich spices that allow for a total flavor experience.
Dried sausage types include pepperoni, chorizo and salami. These are also ready to eat and fully-cooked. They all are cured with different combinations of spices, and are full of flavor.
Whatever type of sausage you would like to try, you can find a lot of tasteful ways to incorporate into your meal and add variety to your regular recipes. Sausage can be used as a substitute for most recipes that call for ground beef, and add a whole new flavor with their different blend of spices. Next time you are not sure what to make for snacks or dinner, try picking up a different kind of sausage and get creative.
