Sandalwood or Indian Sandal wood is the heaviest, most endangered and expensive wood in the world. It is popular for its fragrance, woodwork, and various medicinal qualities. Sandalwood is good for figurine purposes, exquisite things, religious practices and skin. Sandalwood oil needs carrier oil to be dilluted and applied on skin as it is very strong.
Sandal wood is known by different names all over as (Santalum album) i.e. (Indian Sandal wood), Santalum ellipticum i.e. (Hawaiian sandalwood), Santalum spicatum i.e. (Australian sandalwood), Amyris balsamifera, i.e. (West Indian sandalwood), and Cendana in Indonesia and Malaysia
It is used in rituals, festive ocassions and ceremonies by all religions as a medium which brings you closer to the divine power. Sandal wood is used in rituals and put as Tilak on forehead. Sandalwood Tilak gives soothing and stabilizing effect to the mind with great concentration power and is excellent for the nervous system. It is found in houses and is known as ‘Chandan’ in Sanskrit/Hindi.
Sandal wood and Sandalwood oil is used in herbal drugs and is renowned for its beneficial effect. Ayurveda treatment which cures internal and external dysfuntioning of the body uses Sandal wood, and made the remedial use of sandalwood more prevalent with its vogue.
It is antimicrobial used in aromatherapy and to prepare soaps. Treatment for many skin and mental problems as anxiety, blackheads, spots, itchting, irritation, acne, cracked feet, dry skin, skin rashes of any and all kinds, strech marks, lacking concentration and wrinkles is provided by sandalwood. It keeps skin germ free and protects it from harmful sun rays, calms and sothes the skin with its moisturizing quality and its cool effect relieves you from all tensions and relaxes the mind. An antispetic for wounds, cuts, scrapes, burns, bursies along with turmeric paste.
Sandalwood is used for making attractive objects and articles. Sandal wood sticks are used for remedial, spiritual practices and it increases concentration.
