Remove Your Makeup
August 29, 2008
Admitted it is fun to improve on nature with a little help from the makeup palette. But, the same stuff that makes you look like a million bucks can also undo you if you don’t take it off before going to bed. No matter how sleepy you are, the makeup removal ritual is ignored at your peril. It will cause your skin to break out, will clog the pores, make your skin look blotchy and dull, or age faster than time.
To do it right, you must begin with choosing the right makeup for your skin type, including the right product to cleanse the skin completely, so that it can breathe and feel refreshed. The choice narrows down between astringents or cleansing milks and lotions. According to dermatologists, astringents can be damaging and dehydrating for the skin, especially if they are alcohol based. Stick to mild cleansing lotions or milk for the face and lips. Later, apply lip balm to the lips and don’t forget the neck, which wrinkles the fastest and must be included in your health and beauty routine.
For the eyes, it is best to use a specifically designed eye makeup remover. The skin is thinnest and most sensitive around the eyes and any adverse reaction i.e. irritation, dryness, redness, wrinkling, even darkening is immediately visible there. Even if you only apply kajal or eye pencil or eye liner, it must be removed properly, completely and daily, as they all tend to smudge and regular smudging over the years can cause dark circles.
Use a non-alcoholic toner after removing makeup to deep cleanse pores, constrict them and add a glow to the skin. Finish off with a good face wash. Prevention and precaution are the keys and one must be very gentle when removing makeup. The skin must not be rubbed too hard, the right product must be used to remove the makeup completely and when done, a light moisturiser should be applied to soothe the skin.
Makeup Removal Handy Hints
Apply remover lotion or cream or oil all over the face and neck. After cleaning the skin completely, dab with a hot towel to open and clean the pores. Baby oil is the best makeup removing agent for dry skin. Wipes are best for oily skins. Use wipes rather than cotton balls on the lips, as cotton fluff tends to stick. Use tapes for black and white heads on the nose. The neck is the most neglected area, use wipes to cleanse the neck and round off with a hot towel treatment, finally apply moisturiser or body lotion to give the skin better colour and keep it smooth. Give yourself a face wash with a gentle soap and plenty of water.
