Relieve Tension Naturally
March 21, 2009
With the pressures of today’s world more and more people are suffering from mental anguish brought on by stress and tension. If this stress goes untreated, it can lead to physical problems. Mental stress can lead to anxiety, hypertension and lack of appetite. Do not treat this matter lightly; seek some form of reprieve. Given below is information on how to naturally treat the affects of stress and tension.
Listen to your body when it tells you that it is tired. Take a brief nap during the day. A nap will allow your mind and body to relax and leave you feeling lighter and refreshed. If you are unable to actually fall asleep while trying to nap, at least lie still with your eyes closed. Try to erase your mind of all that is putting pressure on you.
Massages work wonders on relieving the body’s tension and as your body relaxes your mind will follow. Tension tends to affect the head, neck and shoulders primarily. As someone who suffers from tension and stress, you will most likely exhibit symptoms such as a headache or stiffness in the neck and shoulders. Either book an appointment with a massage therapist or have your partner give you a massage.
Meditation is a great stress reliever. When you meditate you condition your brain to focus on a soothing image or sound and block out anything that is causing you anguish. Medication works to placate the mind and by soothing the mind, the affects filter down into your body. Pick a quiet place at your home or office to set aside a few minutes of meditation.
Deep breathing is used in combination with meditation. When you are anxious you tend to not breathe properly. Instead of taking slow breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth, those suffering from stress and anxiety tend to take quick bursts of breath in and out of their nose. Deep breathing techniques originate from yoga. With deep breathing, you shut your mind down and focus only on the air as it enters your body through the nose and exits through your mouth.
Ever hear the saying, “music soothes the savage beast?” Well, it’s true. Take a break from the loud pulsating music that you hear every day and put on something soothing such as classical music or ethereal music. Music has a great affect on a person’s mental well being. Take time to dim the lights, close your eyes, relax, and listen to some soothing sounds.
