What is prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer is a cancer that begins in the prostate gland and over time, gradually spreads to other parts of the body. The cancer comes from a malignant tumor located in the prostate, which the tumor cannot be removed.
What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer, in its early stages, do not cause any symptoms for several years, so a person would not know whether if they have the cancer until several years later, when they experience symptoms such as blood in urine and a burning sensation when urinating.
Also, as the size and pressure of the cancer increases, the flow of urine decreases, this causes those with prostate cancer to have a weak stream when urinating. In the later stages, as the cancer passes through the body, it also attacks the tissues of the pelvic bones, causing the person to have pains in the back and the pelvis, as the bones get weaker. Then the cancer would spread to the abdominal area, causing chest pains and to have yellow skin and/or spread to the lungs, causing the person to have chest pains and frequent coughing.
Usually, those with prostate cancer, if found and treated early, can live a normal and healthy life, whereas for those who found the cancer at its latter stages, cannot be cured and treatment will only slow down the progress of the spreading cancer and the person will eventually succumb to the illness, when it destroys all the healthy tissues of the vital organs, causing them to collapse.
How is prostate cancer diagnosed?
Prostate cancer is diagnosed by a doctor in several different ways. One way a doctor can diagnose prostate cancer is through a rectal exam, where the doctor sticks his or her finger in the patient’s rectal cavity to check of any lumps or swelling in the rectal cavity.
Another way for a doctor to diagnose prostate cancer is through an device called an ultrasound, which captures images of the rectal area to check for any lumps or swelling in that area. If you know or even think you have prostate cancer, please see a doctor and discuss with them, options on how to treat this deadly disease and always remember to get regular physical exams to see if there is any cancer present and soon the cancer is found, the better for you to have it treated.
