Proper Skin Care Regimes
June 29, 2009
Let’s face it…your skin is high-maintenance no matter what type you may have. Proper care of your skin should always be high on your priority list because your skin tells on you, no matter what you are doing.
This is because skin is so sensitive to what else is going on in your body. It tattles when you make poor food choices (by breaking out), don’t get enough sleep (by developing dark circles & bags under the eyes), or soaks up too much sun (by burning).
The least we can do for our skin is take care of it properly and each different type of skin requires a different regime.
If you have dry skin
Dry skin should be washed with a rich, creamy cleanser. Instead of using a drying astringent, try a mild skin toner instead, followed by a good, rich moisturizer.
Dry skin should also be moisturized before applying makeup, after makeup removal, and before going to bed each night.
Wash your dry skin once each week with melon juice. Make a facial by combining 1 egg yolk, 2 tablespoons of milk, and ½ tablespoon of honey. Apply this mixture to your face and let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Other products good for dry skin are crushed almonds, lanolin, sour cream, and apple juice.
If you have oily skin
Having oily skin may seem bad to you, but you actually have some advantages because oily skin does not wrinkle or age nearly as fast as dry skin, due to its excess lubrication.
Of course, the constant lubrication acts like a magnet to dirt, so oily skin must be cleaned regularly. If not, then the pores will become clogged and eruptions will form.
Medicated soap and water should be used to wash oily skin. Since astringents are drying to the skin, they can be used. Buttermilk, egg whites, and parsley juice are all good for controlling oil secretions.
After washing oily skin, press a hot towel to the skin and repeat several times. Next, press an ice-cold towel to the skin and repeat several times. This will help the large pores to close up.
Good cleansers for oily skin include oatmeal, almond paste, fuller’s earth, and lime juice.
Rich or fried foods should be avoided and the consumption of green vegetables should be increased.
Other products good for oily skin include tomatoes, yogurt, lemon, and cucumbers.
If you have combination skin
People with combination skin must treat each area depending upon whether it is dry or oily (see above).
