Pregnancy Requirements
January 21, 2009
Pregnancy is a state in which every woman at some point in her life wants to be. It is a wonderful feeling to know that you are carrying a life inside you. Birthing a new life is a new feeling altogether. Some women prefer to give birth at the birthing centre, while others go to the hospital for the safe delivery of the child. Whatever place you decide to give birth, it is important that you know what you should have with you when you go there.
Here are a few things that you should remember to carry with you when you go to the hospital.
Birthplan
You make sure you carry a copy of your birthplan with you when you go in labour. Remember to give it to your midwife when you arrive at the hospital.
TENS machine
If you have been using this machine, then make sure you carry it with you.
Massage oil
You can bring massage oil with you. You do not know how long it will take. Till then, this will help to relieve your backache.
Slippers
Remember to carry a pair of slippers with you because the hospital floors are not always warm. They generally are cold and going barefoot will not help you. Also, flip flops will be useful to wear in the shower.
Warm socks
You couldn’t be more cautious. Keep these with you in case you feel cold, you will at least keep your feet warm.
Music
Before you bring music, check if it is allowed. Only then you can carry some of your favorite tracks to keep you cool.
Drinks
You might just get thirsty, so be prepared. You do not want to keep gasping for water while in pain. You can keep bottled water or juice to keep off the thirst.
Snacks
Have some light snacks like bananas or chocolate with you, just in case.
Birth clothes
You can keep an old large T-shirt in which you can give birth. It will be good if it has front buttons. That will help you breastfeed better and give you more skin to skin contact.
Toiletries
Keep some tissues, cleansing wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste and also some waterproof mascara with you. You are the mother; you will want to look great in the post-birth pictures.
Books and games
Hospital can be a pretty boring place to be. So keep some books and games with you to avoid boredom.
Watch
Lastly, remember to wear a watch or keep one with you so that you can time your contractions.
