Pregnancy Myths Exposed

Before you get pregnant you may hear a lot of things about pregnancy but never really pay much attention. Once you get pregnant, some of these things may be a little scary to hear. Many of them are just myths and have never been proven by medical science.
One of these myths is to keep the pregnancy a secret till the end of the first trimester. The older generation may tell you this to avoid the evil eye from causing a miscarriage. This is a myth. The first trimester is when you are at the most risk for anything to go wrong. The evil eye has nothing to do with nausea and gas. It is okay to tell that you are expecting.
Another great myth is the size of the belly will reveal the sex of the baby. This is so not true on so many levels. The size and shape of your belly depends on the amount of weight that you gain as well as you build and your shape.
If someone tells you that you are glowing because it’s a girl, they have no clue about pregnancy. You are going to glow regardless of the sex. You have to love the phrase, you are eating for two. That is all well and good but, you only need an extra 300 calories in your diet. Remember, you have to work off that extra eating once the baby is born.
A myth that is utterly ridiculous is that you deny yourself a craving the baby will ooze fluid out of its ears. That is totally preposterous. You do need to be careful of what you eat but it is okay to indulge yourself and the baby will be fine either way.
There are many other myths as well such as certain foods will affect the baby’s skin color, iron can do this or sleeping in a particular position will affect delivery; no it will not. One of the best ones is sex will induce labor. This is not true. But it is true that you can enjoy sex till the day you go into labor.
