There are very few places you could travel to where people do not know what a Coke is. Although, depending on where you live and travel to, soft drinks have different names and interpretations in different areas of the world. Whether it is pop, soda, soda pop, or simply cokes; people all over consume thousands of gallons of these bubbly drinks every year.
To most people, we enjoy the carbonated, tasteful beverages on a daily basis. But what soft drinks do we consume the most of, and what are the most popular? Based on sales and research, the leader in the soft drink industry is Coca Cola. It is notorious with the mention of soft drinks, and is known worldwide for its unique blend of soft drink products.
Pepsi Cola ranks number two in the soft drink industry. Pepsi offers similar flavors and brands as Coca-Cola and both have kinds that are equally as popular. For example, Coca Cola’s Diet Coke is usually a winner over Pepsi’s Diet Pepsi. But Pepsi takes the lead with its citrus blend of Mountain Dew over Coca Cola’s counterpart, Mello Yello.
What makes a popular soft drink? The answer is different to everyone, depending on where you are. For example, in Japan there are some interesting concoctions of soft drinks that are not known anywhere else in the world. The mere thought of some of the unique blends is enough to make you wince at the sound of them. One example would be Pepsi Ice Cucumber, or Hot Calpis – a very hot fruity yogurt blend.
What makes soft drink brand popular or not popular breaks down to which kind is selling the most and who has the most people consuming it. Different chains of restaurants offer only one brand of soft drinks typically, and major soft drink companies vie for the coveted spot. For instance, McDonalds serves Coca Cola products, and since they are one of the world’s most popular fast food chains, they serve up a lot of Coca Cola products, therefore adding to the overall popularity and success of Coca-cola.
