Produced by mixing metals from the platinum group, it includes iridium, palladium, ruthenium, rhodium and osmium. For example, if a platinum ring is marked 900, it means 90% of it is made from pure platinum and 10% from other metals.
As in ancient times, men once again take to wearing jewellery in the form of rings, pendants, bracelets, chains, earrings, etc. platinum ornaments reign supreme as male fashion accessories. Nothing sets of a diamond like platinum, whether set in a platinum ring, pendant or as earrings.
Longer lasting, one is better off with white coloured platinum jewellery, since platinum does not require Rhodium plating, as does white gold. Heavier than gold, platinum is the best medium for men’s jewellery or ornaments. It is also easy to clean and you can give a glowing sheen to your platinum jewellery with the help of mild soap and soft cloth. As well, platinum is a hypoallergenic metal and highly suitable for people with susceptible skins. It is also identified to be tougher than other metals and the chunky styles of men’s jewellery look better when designed in platinum.
Tremendously robust, platinum ornaments have been found in ancient excavation sites in Ecuador. These findings are a true testimony of the achievements of ancient South American Indian metallurgy, remarkable indeed, as it should be borne in mind that it was only two centuries ago that Europe stumbled on the melting of platinum.
