Oriental Therapies – Acupuncture

When people think of Chinese medicine, they often think of finding their chi or energy flow. This can be done with acupuncture. There are many different forms of acupuncture and depending upon what part of the world that you live in, will depend upon what type of treatment you would probably receive.
The original type of acupuncture is done by first diagnosing the problems. The acupuncturist will ask you a few questions, observe you a little, and check your tongue and pulse. He will then use needles at certain meridian points of your body and wither twirl or use a slight pumping motion with the needles.
There is also a treatment known as moxibustion and cupping. Acupuncture is used with both of these methods. Moxibustion is a method of burning mugwort close to the skin for a warming effect and to intensify the affect of the needles. The cupping treatment is the process of using a vacuum to bring the blood to the surface.
Of course, there is also the scientific method of acupuncture. This is a Western method, which believes that massage of the joints will help to bring relief and a cure to the patient. It is a method, which is based on science of the anatomy and physiology.
There are different types of acupuncture needles. The choices are stainless steel, gold, and silver. These needles are either sterilized or disposed of. Depending upon, which part of the body you are getting the treatment will make a difference in the length and size of the needle.
For areas that are thick such as the butt, the needles are thicker than those that are used in thinner areas such as the forehead. The acupuncturist may just leave the needles sit or they may move them around a little depending upon what you are getting the treatment for.
Remember to keep your mind open at the different types of treatment you could be getting for your conditions. Also, remember that you will need to tell them everything in order to get the right and proper treatment for your illness.
