OCD

OCD, also known as obsessive compulsive disorder, affects more men than we realize. Your brain actually cannot let go of a particular thought and causes you to perform a ritual that you do to overcome the thought.
Unfortunately, for some, this can become a life haltering condition. You may feel the need to wash your hands repeatedly, not stepping on a crack in the side walk or even not touching a door knob. The compulsions that patients suffer from OCD vary from little and unnoticeable or the symptoms that are out control and affect their every day lives.
OCD can impair someone from being able to hold a job or even have a lasting relationship. Whether it is because the other person can’t handle the disease or maybe because the obsessions interfere with employment, many people with OCD end up living alone.
This disease does not discriminate on age, color, creed, race or sex. It can strike you at any time. Generally, the symptoms begin in the teens and progress into adulthood.
There are several different types and forms of OCD. The most common form is contamination. This type will cause the patient to repeatedly wash their hands, scrub the floors or even affect them while cooking with raw foods.
Fear is another symptom. This will cause the person to check and re-check to make sure that they have not forgotten something. Such as, grabbing there wallet, turning off a light or even turning off the stove. They will keep checking to make sure until the fear has subsided.
There are many other levels such as unwanted thoughts, hoarding, disorder, olfactory obsession where they are constantly washing there body, hyperscrupulosity where the patient always feels guilt for something.
Other levels and symptoms of OCD are out there. Medications are available from your doctor to try and get it under some sort of control. There is no cure for OCD but it can be contained so to speak so that you can live a normal life.
If you think or feel that you may have any of these symptoms, consult your doctor for medical advice. You should also do some research on the subject. You can also investigate behavior therapy as this can help you to re-train your brain and try to overcome some of your anxieties.
