Obesity: Classes and Causes
After a hectic morning in the office, you rush out to lunch knowing very well that you have only a few minutes to eat. You get to a fast food jointed and order something big. which you swallow in a few seconds.
After that, you start thinking of the few extra pounds that you have added to your size. These few extra pounds accumulate and push you over the overweight line into obesity.
This is the problem most people are facing today. About 30% or more of people in the US are obese. Those who are not obese certainly know someone who is. Obesity is a disease, which must be dealt with as such.
Types of Obesity
Obesity can be classified into three groups.
Class 1 obesity means you might develop health related problems so you need to see your doctor for help on how to reduce your weight.
The risk of developing related problems increases tremendously with class 2 obesity. Those who fall in this group need immediate medical attention.
Severe or class 3 obesity means that the risk of developing health related problem is at the highest possible, and death could occur. There is an urgent need to see the doctor for immediate remedies.
Causes of obesity
There are many factors responsible for obesity.
Lifestyle and diet
What you eat and how you exercise affect your body seriously. You put on weight when you eat more calories than you can burn. Excess calories are stored as fat. Sedentary lifestyles are therefore so much responsible for obesity.
Genetics and hereditary
Your genetic make up plays an immense role in whether you become obese or not. There are some who are prone to storing more calories than they can burn. That is why some families are generally prone to obesity. If your parents are obese, the chances are that you might also follow them.
Hypothyroidism
The thyroid hormone regulates the body metabolism. If it is no being produced in the right quantities, then your metabolism will slow down, meaning you don’t use enough of the energy your body produces. The excess as usual will be stored as fat.
Emotions
Your emotions can influence the way you eat. Emotions like anger, stress, and depression can lead to poor eating habits. When they make you overeat, you end up developing weight problems.
