Nutrition During Pregnancy
When a woman is pregnant, she becomes responsible not only for herself but also for the child that she is nurturing within herself. Whatever she does has a direct effect on this child. The most important thing to remember is proper nutrition. If the mother is not taking proper nutrition daily, then the child will certainly be malnourished because it depends entirely on the mother for nourishment and nutrition.
As a result, expectant mothers have to take extra care to ensure that they are eating right. The mother has to keep her strength up for the child as well as for herself. The body of the mother undergoes several physiological changes in addition to anatomical changes. This is why if the mother does not care for proper nutrition, then she might not be strong enough to endure childbirth.
This article deals with some basic information regarding the appropriate nutrition you need to take during pregnancy.
Energy and fat
The daily caloric requirement of a woman increases by about 300 calories when she becomes pregnant. This is required for making fat deposits during the pregnancy term. These fat deposits are later converted into milk, at the time of lactation and thus utilised.
However, the increase in caloric intake usually will be different for different women. For example, if an expectant mother is underweight, then she will need to take more calories compared to a woman who is of normal weight or is overweight.
The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about this.
Protein
It is very much needed for the body. During the early to mid pregnancy periods, the body of the pregnant woman begins to store protein. This stored protein is then utilised by the foetus, during the later period of pregnancy, when it is growing very rapidly.
Minerals
Phosphorus and calcium form some of the most important minerals. Calcium is required for teeth and bones. It enables the healthy formation of bones in the baby.
Iron
Iron also needs to be taken more during pregnancy. This is very important for the development of the body.
Vitamin A
This nutrient is responsible for healthy vision, as well as maintaining your nervous equilibrium.
