Nurture Your Caring Nature
June 23, 2008
Most people with a caring nature tend to forget themselves while taking care of others. And, when they do turn to themselves, more often than not they focus on health care or body care, forgetting mind and spirit. Our first concern is about food, water, shelter, the necessary necessities of life. It is only after taking care of these necessities that we turn to the importance of keeping our minds healthy, stimulating it by reading, studying, thinking, or meditation. Keeping in mind that our emotions and feelings are a part of who we are, we work hard to maintain an emotional balance
Since, the spiritual aspect of our lives helps keeps us connected to nature, a significant part of our days are spent trying to balance the needs of our body, mind, and spirit. However, it is when we allow our caring nature, the need to nurture take over the responsibility of looking after and caring for someone who needs our care, that the balancing act gets a little more challenging.
As a caregiver, taking care of someone else, one becomes a special resource. Someone who helps another person meet the everyday needs all humans have. Care-giving enables us to feel needed and appreciated; it helps us feel we are of use to someone. But, many people become so involved in care-giving that they end up neglecting their mental, physical and spiritual health. To be a re resourceful caregiver, you should maintain a balance between your life and that of your role as a care-giver.
Nurture your caring nature, care for it by making realistic demands on yourself, by being gentle with yourself, instead of pushing yourself beyond tolerance. Get help when needed from family, friends or otherwise. Listen to what your mind, body and spirit are telling you, look out for signs of exhaustion, confusion, anger frustration, and emptiness. Learn how to take not just to give. Network with others, such as, at church, the synagogue, within the community, with support groups or health care professionals).
Care as much for yourself as you do for others. Learn how to laugh at life and take it a little less seriously. Indulge in some essential self-care and maintain wellness of mind, body and spirit, making your health and wellness a priority. The best way to do so is to eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep and rest, exercise, and leisure time every day. Schedule regular medical and dental check-ups to promote health and prevent illness. Remember the old adage: Prevention is better than cure! Learn to manage stress, laugh to release tension and improve your mood and lift your spirits. Develop a positive attitude, keeping everything in perspective! You’d be better off remembering that Superman is a myth, and Superwoman does not exist. The best you can do is the best you can do. Care and nurture your caring nature by finding the perfect mind, body, spirit BALANCE!
