Nose Pins And Nose Studs

Introduced to the West by the hippies who thronged India in the 1960s, nose piercing is quite popular amongst the ethnic communities of the world, especially its place of origin i.e. India where women add to the beauty of their face with nose rings and nose studs. It also has Ayurvedic connotations as all south Indians pierce the right nostril as this location is associated with female reproductive organs. Many south Indians also go in for multiple piercings i.e. both the right and the left nostril, while septum piercing is also quite common amongst the older generation. On the other hand, north Indians prefer to wear their nose sparklers on the left, as a mark of beauty and social standing. Hindu Indians also pierce their nose in honour of Lord Shiva’s consort, Parvathi who in the 16th century was revered as the Goddess of marriage.
Gaining popularity outside the Indian sub-continent, women in Muslim countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, including Middle Eastern and Arab countries can be seen to wear a small diamond in the nose. In recent decades it has also become popular in Western countries, as have other forms of body piercing. Nose piercings are done so that one can wear jewellery in the nose e.g. nose studs, nose rings etc. and no matter which part of the nose is pierced, you can be sure it will be decorated with diamond nose studs or gold nose rings to add sparkle to the face.
Nose studs and rings come in various designs from solitaire diamonds sparkling in the nose to gold designs in floral and other pretty shapes, encrusted with precious pearls and gemstones. Nose rings made of gold and heavily ornamented are usually worn at weddings and because of their weight they are supported by fine chains attached to the hair. These nose ornaments are also made from other metals but one has to be careful what one wears, as they can cause allergic reactions.
However, there is no doubt that nose studs and nose rings add a sparkle to face, especially when one is wearing a one or two carat diamond in the nose!
