More than 50% of women consume alcohol during pregnancy

Washington – It has been estimated that over 50% of the British women still consume alcohol during pregnancy. It is happening in spite of being aware of its long-standing negative effects on children as per the new survey.The data released by National Health Service, older mothers are more expected to drink while pregnant than younger ones.
Assorted researches have shown that consumption of alcohol during pregnancy can escort to low IQ, attention shortfall disorders and more serious duration evils in children.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome cause due to alcohol consumption during pregnancy leads to harsh learning difficulties, impaired intelligence, certain facial characteristics and growth retardation.
It also found 61 % of mothers aged 35 or over said they drank while pregnant compared to 47 % of those aged under 20.
“Not all women who drink during pregnancy will harm their child but the only way to be sure is not to drink at all,” said Susan Fleischer
“Some of the children being admitted to hospital because of their own drinking will have brain damage caused by their mother’s drinking and there will be a smattering of middle class kids in there too,” she also added.
