Money over Children - Parents Selling Their Children
July 2, 2008
I know some of you must be thinking as to how a parent or parents can sell their own flesh and blood and God’s greatest creation for anything? Sure it is ok to sell a car or a TV or a nice ring but to sell your own children? It makes one wonder what kind of a person or persons who not only do it but can even think about doing that.
Most people, including Americans, believe that child slavery does not exist and no human being could bring themselves to sell or buy an innocent child; but it does happen and it happens all over the world, even in America.
This is especially true in backward countries where the black market for child slaves is booming. In countries like these, parents would sell their children as slave labor just to pay the rent or buy food and the child would work in a sweatshop for 12-14 hours a day in cramped, noisy and unsanitary environments making weaving cloth and making dyes for clothing.
Who really profits from child slavery? In terms of labor and profit, major retailers like Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Target profit from child slave labor. If you want proof just go to any major retailer, check the tag on any item of clothing and see where it was made from and I bet it was not made in America.
What other reason(s) are there for parent(s) to sell their children? Well, it could be to get money to buy illegal narcotics such as crack, cocaine, marijuana, and/or meth. Another reason for parents selling their children could be that they do not want their child or children anymore and have no other way to take care of the child.
This is true in most teen and young adult pregnancies where the mother or the father of the baby is missing in the picture to take care of the child or children and do not have any additional support from the child’s grandparents or other relatives, leaving them with no choice but to sell their baby or babies.
Is it wrong for a parent to sell their children for any reason? Yes, of course it is wrong for any child to be sold but is it right if there is a right reason? No, there is no right reason to sell a child, even if the parent(s) are not able to take care of them.
