A broken heart can cause extreme sadness, heartache and depression. In fact it is one of the most painful things human beings deal with at some time or the other in their lives. It takes love, patience and tenderness to mend a broken heart, but if it is your own heart that is broken, it can be a tough time for you. Here are some suggestions which may help you to move on and find your way to happiness again.

The first step to heal your own broken heart is to take it seriously. This unfortunate time in your life is not something petty. Whether it was a long-term relationship or your first love, a broken heart does hurt and it causes extreme mental and emotional pain. Separation from a loved one may also cause stress and physical pain. Ignoring pain is not going to help. But it is better to acknowledge that this phase of your life is real and treat yourself with kindness and love.

It is also important for you to acknowledge the fact that it will take time for you to overcome this pain in your life. You heart cannot be mended overnight but you can definitely learn to get over the pain in one day time. It is a good idea to call your friends and talk to them. You may go for walks, breathe deeply and try to exercise. Exercising will help in bringing your health and mental state at equilibrium.

Something that you must never do is hastily throwing away everything that is associated with the person you have lost. It is important to acknowledge the person who has separated from you or broken your heart. After your pain has eased up, you may want to keep the memories.

There is no set time limit in which your broken heart will automatically get mended, it may take long. Do not let your relatives and friends push you into another relationship too soon. It is important that you take enough time; otherwise you will get into the risk of getting hurt again.

The best way of mending your own heart is finding your own positive attributes and loving yourself. This will increase your self-esteem and you’ll be able to remind yourself that you can stay happy on your own.
