Nail Manicure
Manicures began in India some 5,000 years ago, when the Indians used henna for their manicures. As then and even today, weekly manicures do wonders for one’s nails and cuticles. Not only do weekly manicures promote faster nail growth, they also strengthen nails and make them stronger with each manicure. Professional manicures are not that expensive and a treat one can indulge in quite regularly. If, that is not an option, then home manicures are just as pleasurable, easy to do and make your hands look great.
1. Begin by removing any old nail polish from your nails.
2. Shape nails with a nail file or emery board. File nails from tip to corner, avoiding see-saw motions as this can cause nail ridges and splitting. Don’t file nails to a point as this makes them weak. A rounded or square form is the strongest.
3. Next, soak hands in warm, soapy water for 10-minutes or them back. This also softens cuticles making it easier to push them back. Clean under free nail edges with an orangewood stick.
4. Cuticle being the skin that grows from the finger onto the base of the nail (nail root), should be pushed back gently. It should be left intact to prevent infection of nail growing tissues. Cuticles should NEVER, NEVER be cut! Doing so can cause the nail to die if done improperly!
5. Next, apply a calcium gel base coat. This helps nails grow faster, hardening them as well. Let it dry for a minute or two. Top off with a couple of coats of your favourite nail polish. Finish with a shine sealer. Allow nails to fully dry for at least an hour or till hardened.
6. Wrap up your manicure by applying a moisturizing cream or lotion to hands and cuticles to prevent nails from splitting.
