Makeup For The Monsoons
May 22, 2008
In keeping with the changing seasons, the climate of India demands that makeup application changes to suit the climatic conditions. You spend hours to get that ravishingly smoky look, only to end up with racoon eyes after getting caught up in a monsoon shower. Runny eyeliner, patchy foundation, melting eye shadow doth not make for a pretty sight. Though monsoons can cause mayhem, the good news is that it can be averted. Here’s the low down of the dos and don’ts of monsoon makeup.
Base Start
Let’s begin with base foundation. During monsoon time your mantra should be less is more. Ideally, the best thing would be to do away with it completely. However, one can understand if that is not an option for you. In that case, you are strongly advised to keep it as less as possible. Most makeup today is silicon based, meaning it blends well, with the skin. So, if foundation you must use then go in for a silicon-based foundation, as a drop of water can cause water based foundations tend to go patchy. Whereas, the silicon based foundations become a part of your skin and are your best bet during the rains. Alternatively, use a moisturizer, followed up with a translucent powder. Finish off your look with a cream based blusher, since powder blushers can cause patches.
In Your Eyes
Don’t shut down the windows to your soul with heavy-duty eye make-up during the rainy season. Eyeliner runs, eye shadow bleeds, kajal smudges… due to rain and the humidity, which causes one to sweat profusely. Use a Kohl pencil in place of eyeliner, choose powder-based eye shadows. And of course, keep in mind that the operative word is ‘waterproof’ while investing in makeup during the monsoons.
Lip Tips
Lay off garish colours during this most romantic of season; instead use transparent lip-gloss for that natural look this season. However, you may have to keep re-applying your gloss quite frequently. If, it’s proving to be too much trouble, try some of the long lasting lipstick varieties.
Parting Shot
Keep your look neat and tidy by shaping eyebrows and clearing the upper lip of unsightly hair growth. Constantly, touch up the face with a light compact to get rid of the shine. Furthermore, use an oil-free under-eye cream to keep the eyes looking fresh. Irrespective of the monsoons, when it comes to makeup, less is always more. And remember, don’t get wet! Keep an umbrella handy!
